Trainer Neil Darashah leading Apache Sunrise (Y S Srinath Up), winner of The Bangalore Summer Million (Gr.3)

The top colt in the winter season, Apache Sunrise from Neil Darashah’s yard bounced back after a listless performance in the Colts championship to win the Bangalore Summer Million in style. The talented colt who appeared to have gone of the boil beat the public rage Romantic Star from Padmanabhan’s yard in convincing fashion and on the strength of this performance is back in the classic list.

Romantic Star who had made a fine impression, finishing a game second behind the Derby winner Manifold in only her second start in the Fillies Championship Stakes before she opted out of the blue riband of the season was touted a `moral certainty’ but she found the Neil ward too hot to handle on this day.

A model of consistency, the Dominic-trained Rafa earned his cornbill winning the  Tippu Sultan Cup in emphatic fashion. Trevor pushed Rafa to the front the moment the starter lowered the flag and Rafa made every post a winning one to the delight of the Dominic camp. The favourite Champagne from Rehanullah Khan’s yard produced a late dash to finish second ahead of Baracchus.

Arjun Mangalorkar-trained Kambaku, Dr Logan from Irfan Ghatala’s yard and Pinyada from the stables of Inayathullah garnered equal support in the Capricorn Stud Plate.  Leading saddle artiste John astride Kambaku stole a march approaching the distance post before pegging back the belated effort of Dr.Logan. Pinyada made his foray along the inside but was found wanting and had to settle for the third place, a neck behind the runner-up.

Padmanabhan- trained Into The Spotlight had impressed most in the morning trials and add to it looked a picture of fitness in the paddock parade. The full brother of the legendary In The Spotlight pitted against moderate rivals proved too good in the Yeravada Stud Plate making every post a winning one in the hands of leading pro Y S Srinath.  Favourite Vice Admiral came from a long way back to occupy the second place ahead of Raw Gold and Super Smart in a tight finish.

Newly licensed trainer Neil Devaney proudly led in his first winner Sedulous who produced a winning gallop on the wide outside to sail past Athena and romp home a deserving winner in the Commanche Trophy. Athena and Alberetta from Irfan Ghatala’s yard were the two most fancied runners but it was Sedulous who proved too good in the end.

Two contestants from Delhi,Top Brass and Black Swan were fancied most in the Galilee Plate before the latter ended up as a firm favourite before the stalling operations. Jockey Dhanu Singh took Black Swan on a start to finish mission and the four-year-old filly skipped clear of Mulholland in the final furlong for an emphatic win. The runner-up appears to be getting into shape and with the benefit of this run will be a force to reckon with in his next start.
