Mahipathi Rao Memorial Million, a terms race for 3 year olds at Hyderabad on Independence Day. The bay colt sent off as the overwhelming favourite among the four runners settled in third early while Prince Caspian led them followed by That’s My Class. Improving gradually from around the two horses in front Prevalent Force was let loose by Y.S.Srinath on top of the straight and the youngster had the race well sewn up long way from home. That’s My Class fought for a while with Prince Caspian for the runner-up berth but the latter prevailed by a length.

R.H.Sequeira trained Ambitious Approach (Mathematecian-Dance N Celebrate) continued its winning streak with a fourth win on the trot in the B. Marideswara Rao Memorial Cup. The speedy 4 year old gelding was drawn the widest among the 14 horses for the sprint. Amorous White was quick to take the lead as the gates opened and Ambitious Approach wasted no time in getting on its haunches moving in from the outside. Approaching the last 400 metres Ambitious Approach surged ahead effortlessly and held on well when Amorous White came at him with renewed effort in the closing stages. Dancing Leaf and Vallee Sceptre finished third and fourth respectively.

M. Srinivas Reddy trained Prospero (Burden Of Proof-Cherika) went on a start to finish to score an encore in the division I of the Independence Cup. The filly took a good start from the outer most draw and headed straight to the inner rails to lead the field. Inside the last 200 metres Awesome Approach came out of the pack and began to challenge strongly with Akshay Kumar riding hard but Prospero held on gamely to justify the favouritism. Without Makeup and Top Contender filled the frame in that order.

Jockey Akshay Kumar who failed in his attempt in the higher division came good on S.S. Faisal Hassan’s That’s My Darling (Mr. Mellon-Highly Fashionable / Ruia Stud) in the lower division of the Independence Cup. That’s My Darling was held back in last position till approaching the bend. Rounding the bend That’s My Darling was pulled out for a clear run from the outside and the mare started to cover places. Like Wise made its bid inside the final furlong and shot ahead. That’s My Darling picked up speed with the rider in full flow and sped past to score an encore. Sea Castle, who had to encounter some traffic problems on the straight came in late to finish a close second ahead of Like Wise. Naazaan was a non-starter in the race.

In an absolutely close finish L.V.R.deshmukh trained Perfection (Chevaliar-Sharp Memory) just managed to edge out Romantic Fire in the lower division of the Treasure Wind Plate. Romantic Fire set out on a start to finish bid over the 5 ½ furlongs scurry and was stubbornly ahead as they came into the final furlong. It looked like Romantic Fire would carry the lead to the finish but veteran R.J. Hannam pulled out the best in him to get the favourite Perfection to raise a gallop and get her nose ahead at the wire. Racink Ikon and Pegasus finished third and fourth respectively.

Trainer L.D’Silva and apprentice Md. Ismail teamed up to score a double on the day through Princess Ballerina and Chinese Thought. The speedy Princess Ballerina (Mull Of Kintyre-Ramatni / AB Stud) shot to the lead as the gates opened and made every post a winning one in the division I of the Treasure Wind Plate. Cash For Rank could only rally into second while Apache Gal and Nelly crossed the winning post together for the minor places.

In another close finish Chinese Thought (Chinese Whisper-Pearls Of Thought) won the Peddapalli Plate. Racing a handy fourth or fifth till the top of the straight Chinese Thought surged ahead and held on by a whisker from the fast finishing Darakhshan Setarah. Vijay’s Empire also flew in to join the duo in third. Raja Hindustani ended up fourth.

Racing in about third till entering the straight Proud N Arrogant took over the running inside the last 400 metres and stretched out well. Jasmine Garden, Cannon Dear and Novitous filled the frame in that order. Sugar Land was a non-starter in the race.
