TATIANA (J.Fortune) was reluctant to reach the starting point. Trainer Dallas Todywalla has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the filly.
At the start, ERAGON (David Allan, dr.10) jumped awkwardly inwards and went on to TATIANA (J.Fortune, dr.9) and then shifted out and caused BE SAFE (B.Sreekanth, dr.11) to travel wide.
WAR COMMAND (C.S.Jodha) hung-out in the straight. Trainer Karthik G has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the colt.
SHIVALIK STORM (A.Sandesh) lugged-out in the straight. Trainer C.D.Katrak has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.
ERAGON (David Allan) lugged out while negotiating the bend. Trainer S.Padmanabhan has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the colt.
Trainer M.Narredu and Jockey Jockey B.Sreekanth were questioned regarding the running and riding of BE SAFE. Trainer M.Narredu said that he had instructed the Jockey to settle the horse on the inside and coming into the straight, pull the horse out and make his move. Jockey B.Sreekanth confirmed the instructions and added that on jump out, ERAGON (David Allan, dr.10) took him out and he immediately corrected his mount and settled him on the inside and coming into the straight he pulled the horse out and did his best and it was bad luck that he lost the race. When asked as to why he did not use the whip at the top of the straight as a reminder, he said that since the horse was moving well he did not require to use the whip. The matter was reported to the Stewards for such action as deemed fit.
The Stewards after the last race interviewed Trainer M.Narredu and Jockey B.Sreekanth and having heard them and having viewed the video recording of Race No.226 as also the horse’s previous two races during the current Mumbai Meeting, were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey B.Sreekanth. The Stewards noted that he settled his horse too far behind and also made his move late. Entering the straight when he pulled the horse out, he should have used the whip as a reminder which he failed to do. Further, when he did use the whip once in the last furlong, by his own admission, the horse responded and yet he did not continue the use of the whip and when questioned in this connection he had no plausible explanation to offer. Further, he also travelled wide and changed course in the straight thereby losing valuable ground and his riding had cost him a certain race. However, taking an overall view, the Stewards decided to give him the benefit of the doubt for mala-fide intent and held him guilty of incompetent riding. Therefore, the Stewards decided to suspend his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 13th March, 2014 23rd March, 2014 (both days inclusive) (permitted to ride work).
After the race, WAR COMMAND was found to be sound, but having an abrasion at the right hind coronet. BE SAFE and ERAGON were found to be sound.
NESTO (Y.S.Srinath) was placed fifth and TATIANA (J.Fortune) was placed sixth by the Judge, in this race.
