The Dasara Sprint Championship (Gr.3), a terms race for horses three years old and over, features an eight event card on Friday at Mysore. This well endowed event has managed to attract only seven runners this year. It is quite possible that the presence of Shivalik Star has led to such a scenario. The Arjun Mangalorkar trainee came into his own , when he carried the top weight exactly a month ago to a brilliant victory. Not only did he make every post a winning one, but he also managed to set a new course record over 1200 metres on the Mysore race track. The terms of The Dasara Sprint Championship are loaded in his favour, as the highly rated four year old will be carrying almost the same weight as most of the others. His closest challenger is expected to be Suleiman Attaollahi’s Sovetskaya. Her recent form has been quite exceptional and like Shivalik Star, she too is known to be a brilliant sprinter. She had clashed with Shivalik Star at level weights at Bangalore, and gotten up in time to beat him by half a length at the wire. The half kilo that she will be conceding to him this time, will somehow make things even. However, one must remember that Shivalik Star was running that day after a gap of almost five months and was apparently a bit “rusty”. With the recent record-breaking performance under his belt, and some smashing track work thereafter, Shivalik Star is sure to start as a firm favourite in the day’s feature. In my opinion, he shapes as the day’s best betting proposition.
