Seasoned war horse Colombiana, from the Malesh Narredu stables, is the pick horse to fancy for the Tata Housing Turf Championship (Gr3), the feature event for Sunday’s races at the Mahalaxmi. Colombiana has been consistent right through his career and has competed with all his heart each time he was off the gates, taking on some of the top of his crop with relative success coming at good frequency. This season too he created a flutter while beating Alaindair in the Maharaja Harisinghji Trophy (Gr2), coming from way back to stud the mighty Alaindair on the post over the 1600m race. He was packed off to Kolkata thereafter and he returned victorious returning with the Indian Champion Cup (Gr1) beating Azzurro over 2000m. He ended sixth in the recently concluded Indian Turf Invitation cup at Bengaluru, not too far from the younger stars of the turf, giving weight at that, so Colombiana’s current form has been positive as well. He has been given a solitary workout just to limber up and all seems well with him going by his fluent gait. His two rivals for the race, B Fifty Two and Commodore cannot be taken lightly as they have, on their day, emerged with flying colors and although its’ just a three-horse field, the finish will be thrilling. My vote goes to Colombiana for his rich experience and true grit.
